World66

World66 is an open content travel guide, where people from all over the planet can write about the places they love, the hotels they stayed in, the restaurants that have eaten. Every part of the travel guide can be edited directly, just like the Wikitravel website. Since the acquisition of World66 by Internet Brands Inc, Wikitravel and World66 have become sister sites. World66.com is now one of the most complete travel resources on the internet, with more than 100,000 articles on almost 50,000 destinations all over the world.

World66 is a collaborative project to create an open content travel guide. This means that virtually anyone can edit our articles simply by clicking on the edit link. If you know some interesting places for travelers in your home town, or if you want to warn other travelers of things that went wrong during your recent trip, you can write about it on World66. In keeping with its image as an objective travel guide, World66 does not encourage business owners to write promotional articles on its website.

World66 has been built using the Zope application server, which allows everyone to add or edit contents. Most of the content on the site is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution Licence. This licence enables copyright holders to grant some or all of their rights to the public while retaining others, including dedication to the public domain. This licence helps to avoid the problems created by current copyright laws. In 2004, World66 relicensed all content to an open license called GNU FDL, which is a copyleft license for free documentation.
