Travelpod

TravelPod is a service which lets people share their travel experiences using their own online travelogue (travel journal or travel blog). Users can utilize TravelPod to host ongoing travelogues which can be updated while you travel. The travelogues can be viewed by friends, family or just about any Internet user. Travelpod provides an easy and interactive way to document and share your travel adventures. Established in 1997, TravelPod was the first website to offer travelogue hosting on the Web. TravelPod headquarters is located in Ottawa, Canada.

TravelPod allows travelogues to be password protected if a user prefers to only let friends and family view the entries. To avail of this service, users must purchase a premium membership. Since the standard service is free, TravelPod is funded primarily through advertising. If someone makes their travelogue private, Travelpod has to charge them since ad revenue cannot be generated from that account. To make full use of TravelPod, users must register for their own account. Members can create multiple travelogues, keep an address book of their friends and family to notify them when they place a new entry, upload photos, and share travel stories.

Every week, Travelpod selects a travelogue as a feature on its main TravelPod welcome page. To be featured, travelogues should be more of a collection of interesting travel stories and photos rather than a factual, day-by-day account of events. When guests view a travelogue, they have a option to give it a rating as well.
