COMFORTING STATISTICS ON TRAVELING AND TOURISM

Your sense of adventure has not been tampered by the news on terrorist attacks, but your loved ones are worried sick at home. What do you do? Check out the statistics. According to the US State Department, fewer than 90 Americans out of 200 million were killed by terrorist related cause while traveling overseas. While the Iraq war may instigate many terrorist attacks abroad, but Americans may not be safer even on our own grounds.

People often get anxious about things and our brains tend to fixate on that one thing instead of looking at the big picture. For instance 30,000 commercial planes are flown every day in 2002 in the US without a single crash, and there’s a better a chance of people getting killed driving behind the wheel than flying, yet many people are still afraid of flying. However, such fear has not stopped many others, like me, from following my travel dreams.

Nonetheless, the effect of 9/11 has come upon us all. The tight airline security at airports has caused much delay and angst among travelers. The rules are getting tighter and tighter everyday. We aren’t even allowed to bring lotion or water on the plane. How many of you traveling recently can agree with me on how uncomfortable it is not being able to put lotion on your hands when they are so dry. In short, if you are willing to put up with all these restrictions until you get to your dream destination, I say, go and travel and expand your horizons. Let the sky be your limit.
