International Traveling Tips

Traveling to different countries can be both a stimulating as well as difficult experience at the same time. Traveling to tropical or less developed countries can sometimes cause health problems for travelers. Food and water contamination can cause serious illness. However, some sensible precautions can prevent most problems, hence travelers should always be well prepared before going on any trip.

Upto 50 percent of all travelers experience stomach problems. To avoid dehydration due to diarrhea travelers should drink plenty of water. Always wash hands before eating. Drink bottled or canned beverages. Always carry iodine tablets to purify tap water. Bug bites are also a major source of communicable diseases. Use insecticide repellants and cover yourself with a mosquito net at night. Snake bites can also be a major problem in some countries. If someone is bitten by a snake, offer reassurance and bandage the limb. Take the patient to a hospital immediately.

A major problem while traveling is the loss of travel documents. It is a good idea to email yourself  passport and ticket numbers and important phone numbers before leaving. It is also useful to carry as less cash as possible. Traveler’s cheques are a convenient way of carrying money and if lost or stolen, can be immediately replaced.

Always inquire before leaving about unsafe places in the country where you are traveling. Avoid places where there is political unrest or a high incidence of street crimes. It is sensible to carry travel insurance. One should take advice from locals about venturing out alone, especially at night.
